Maynooth Labour Economist wins Walsh Prize for Research
Maynooth University Labour Economist, Prof. Donal O'Neill and co-author Niamh Holton (Central Statistics Office) have been awarded the prestigious 2018 inaugural Brendan Walsh Prize for Economic and Social Research. They were awarded the honour for their paper “The Changing Nature of Irish Wage Inequality from Boom to Bust,” which was chosen by the council of Economic and Social Studies as the best paper published in the Economic and Social Review in 2017.

2017 Junior Certificate Business Studies Awards
The Department of Economics, Finance and Accounting were delighted to host another successful Junior Certificate Business Studies Awards ceremony in the historic setting of the Aula Maxima on 30th January 2018. Prof Philip Nolan on behalf of Maynooth University recognised the contribution to teaching and promotion of excellence in Junior Certificate Business Studies of 97 individual schools, while also acknowledging the extraordinary achievement of over 550 of their students who achieved excellence in their 2017 higher-level exam. The event is run in association with the Business Studies Teachers Association of Ireland and in conjunction with the Department of Law and the School of Business.

Doctoral Fellowships in Financial Econometrics/Empirical Finance
The Department of Economics, Finance & Accounting at Maynooth University will award two four-year doctoral fellowships in financial econometrics or empirical finance commencing in September 2018. Closing date for applications is April 30th, 2018, unless positions are filled earlier.

Dr Michael Hayden
Dr. Michael Hayden, Lecturer in Accounting, in the Department of Economics, Finance & Accounting graduated recently with his PhD in Accounting. Michael completed his PhD under the supervision of Dr. Ruth Mattimoe at DCU. The title of Michael's thesis was Sensemaking and Financial Decision-making on Irish Farms. Throughout this research project Michael collaborated with a number of key stakeholder groups in the Irish Agricultural Industry, including: Teagasc, IFAC Accountants, the Irish Farmers Association and the Irish Agricultural Consultants Association.

Accountancy Showcase 2017 a Great Success
The annual Maynooth University Accountancy Showcase took place on Tuesday October 3rd 2017 in the Iontas Building, Maynooth University. All the leading professional accounting firms including PWC, E&Y,KPMG,Deloitte, Grant Thornton, Mazars, BDO, RBK, Crowe Horwath, IFAC and Smith & Williamson attended as well as Hedgeserv, Kerry, The Office of the Auditor & Comptroller General, Revenue, Central Bank and IFS Statestreet. Overall the event was a great success.
