Maynooth Economics Research features at International Workshop on Labour Market Policy Evaluation

Work by the labour economics group at Maynooth University featured at the 13th IZA Workshop on Labour Market Policy Evaluation. The two day workshop organised by Sinem H. Ayhan (IZA), Marco Caliendo (University of Potsdam and IZA), Gerard J. van den Berg (University of Bristol and IZA) took place on the 5th and 6th of October at IZA Headquarters in Bonn and featured invited presentations from a small number of international researchers conducting program evaluation research on policy issues related to the labor market. Among some of the topics discussed were papers on health and retirement, automation and minimum wages, occupational licensing and mortality, and the employment effects of short-time work programmes. Prof. Imran Rasul (University College London) gave the keynote address on "Tackling Youth Unemployment: Evidence from a Labor Market Experiment in Uganda."

Maynooth University were represented by Professor Donal O'Neill, a labour economist in the Department of Economics, Finance and Accounting, who presented joint work with his colleagues Dr. Aedín Doris and Dr. Olive Sweetman on "Does reducing Unemployment Benefits during a Recession Reduce Youth Unemployment,"
