Under the remit of the European Research Council (ERC) funded project ‘Protecting the Right to Culture of Persons with Disabilities and Enhancing Cultural Diversity through European Union Law: Exploring New Paths – DANCING’, Professor Delia Ferri and Eva Krolla publish edited volume ‘Actors and Roles in EU Disability Law’ in the Modern Studies in European Law series by Hart Publishing.
The volume adopts an ‘actor-oriented perspective’ and aims to advance understanding of how EU disability law has been shaped. In addition to looking at the 'how' of the field's development, it addresses the 'who' by charting the key stakeholders in the field, providing an insightful and innovative take on an increasingly significant field of EU law. Considering both institutional and non-institutional actors in EU disability law, the volume takes a contextual approach, both engaging with current debates and policies and providing rigorous legal analysis.
While the book brings together EU law scholars from across Europe, several chapters were written by colleagues from the School of Law and Criminology, namely Dr. Ollie Bartlett who discussed the role of the EU legislature, Dr. Charles O’Sullivan who considered the role of national courts in shaping EU disability law through the preliminary reference procedure and Prof. Michael Doherty who examined the role of social partners.
The book is open access and available here.
Professor Delia Ferri is Professor of Law at the School of Law and Criminology of Maynooth University and Co-Director of the Assisting Living and Learning (ALL) Institute.
