    Funding for new Doctoral training for SFI

    Maynooth University to receive more than €9 million for doctoral training of 70 students through new SFI Centres

    Maynooth University has been named a partner in two highly innovative Science Foundation Ireland Centres for Research Training, which will provide training for more than 70 doctoral students at Maynooth in areas of identified skills need for Irish society and its economy.

    Department of Psychology Kicks off its 20th Birthday Celebrations

    To mark the beginning of the 20th year since the foundation of the Department of Psychology at MU in September, 1999, a research day was held in Renehan Hall on January 30th. This research symposium showcased the range of exciting research being conduced here, at both postgraduate and post-doctoral level in a series of 5-minute presentations.

    Dr. Brenda O'Connell of MU features on RTE’s Growing Up Live

    This year to celebrate Science Week, RTE produced a new series ‘GROWING UP, LIVE’ which looked at the extraordinary development of humans from birth to death, from infancy to old age, shot live in front of a studio audience. Our resident positive psychologist, Dr Brenda O’Connell co- presented with Prof Niall Moylan on how we develop in our 20’s, focusing on what science tells us about happiness during this life stage.

    ‘Against the Odds’ – A CMHCR Event for World Mental Health Day

    The CMHCR hosted a well-received event on the 10th October, as part of Maynooth University Research Week 2018 and to celebrate World Mental Health Day. The event was supported by the Maynooth University Research and Development Office who kindly provided complimentary lunch and refreshments.

    Irish Research Council Enterprise-Based Postgraduate Scholar award

    Congratulations to Penny Quinn, a postgraduate member of the Centre for Mental Health and Community Research (CMCHR), Department of Psychology, who was one of the awardees at Maynooth University’s recent awards ceremony for the 2018 recipients of the Irish Research Council Postgraduate and Postdoctoral Scholarships.

    MU psychologists feature prominently in the national media - Centre for Mental Health and Community Research

    It is estimated that up to one in five children and young people may live in families where a parent has mental health difficulties. For the first time in Ireland, a team of psychologists at Maynooth University are working with mental health services across the country to help implement and research new services for families in which a parent has mental health challenges. Maynooth University’s ‘PRIMERA’ research programme is playing an important role increasing awareness among mental health professionals of the impact of parental mental health on children.
