Presentation Ceremony for Excellence in Junior Certificate Business Studies 2015
The Department of Economics, Finance and Accounting, School of Business and Department of Law jointly hosted Maynooth University’s inaugural presentation ceremony to publically recognised excellence in Junior Certificate Higher Level Business Studies examination 2015. The event was run in conjunction with the Business Studies Teachers Association of Ireland (BSTAI) where schools contribution to teaching and promotion of excellence in the discipline was acknowledged, while also applauding students who achieved excellence in their 2015 higher level Business Studies junior certificate exam.

It Pays to Study Economics
Two recent studies find that university students studying economics earn significantly higher wages than those who have not taken economics as part of their studies. Part of this premium is due to the fact that economics students work in better jobs once they graduate but the research also finds that economics students earn more than others even when they do the same job. This strongly supports the view that employers value the skills that economics students bring to the workforce.

Maynooth University hosted a very successful Accountancy Showcase on Tuesday October 6th 2015 in the Iontas Building, Maynooth University. All the leading professional firms including PWC, EY,KPMG and Deloitte attended as well as Hedgeserv, Kerry, Glanbia and IFS.

Exciting Changes to MSc in Economic and Financial Risk Analysis degree at Maynooth University
We are pleased to announce exciting new changes to our MSc. in Economic and Financial Risk Analysis programme from September 2015. The revised programme combines high-quality modules in key theoretical and empirical aspects of economics and finance with the practical experience of a work placement. The introduction of a work placement is designed to give our graduates real world experience in the job market and enhance their future employment prospects. Students will have the opportunity to spend at least three months as part of the new programme.

Maynooth University Economics Professor appointed to Government Low Pay Commission
Maynooth University Economics Professor, Professor Donal O'Neill, has been appointed by the Government as labour market expert to the board of the newly formed Low Pay Commission. The Commission is a statutory body that will make annual reports to the Government with advice and reccomendations on the appropriate rate for the National Minimum Wage.

Maynooth University Finance Professor, Professor Gregory Connor, gives expert testimony before the Oireachtas Banking Inquiry. Professor Connor told the Inquiry that ministers should have known the banks were insolvent – and taken more time to let them collapse.
