The Mentoring for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion module introduces mentors to the practical steps involved in building relationships. It introduces the basic concepts of equality, diversity and inclusion and walks mentors through the interactive and participatory processes that can be used to enhance positive relationship building.  Upon completion of the module the mentor will have a broader understanding of the skills associated with mentoring and communicating effectively. The course involves learners’ participation in training and reflection, as well as engaging in a mentoring relationship with a young person.

This course is open to experienced professionals who do not have a primary degree.

This course will be taught asynchronously and will be a mixture of seminars, mentoring sessions and supported reflection hours. Students will participate in block seminars of 3 three-hour sessions which will be delivered asynchronously. These sessions will be delivered in the late afternoon/evenings or weekends to suit full time working staff.   Students will participate in a formal mentoring programme which includes 3 one-hour mentoring sessions and three reflection hours. These will be scheduled and managed by the academic team in Maynooth University.

Course Duration: 12 Weeks Part-time

Becoming a skilled mentor can contribute to participants personal success and career development in several domains. Mentorship can provide numerous benefits for mentors and their mentees, including relationship building skills, committment and support skills. These are transferable skills relevant to careers in the private and public sector, and are specifically relavent to coaching roles and support work. Graduates of the Micro-credential will also be specialised in Diversity and Inclusion, making them perfect candidates for D&I roles that are responsible for coordinating, administrating and leading Universal Diversity and Inclusion work . Graduates of the micro-credential will ultimately be able to appreciate, explore and implement the best practice in equality, diversity and inclusion and mentoring within their own settings, whether this be in the public or private sector.
