On 4 November 2023, the co-founders of the European Whistleblowing Institute (EWI) were hosted at Maynooth University (MU) by the School of Law and Criminology for their annual in-person team meeting. EWI, established in December 2023, is an independent organisation driven by a deep passion to enhance innovative research, excellent education, and fact-based policies on whistleblowing. Whistleblowing laws profoundly alter the legal landscape in the European Union. More than ever before, adequate expertise and organisational capacities are needed to keep pace with the growing rules and practices of whistleblowing in Europe. EWI’s aim is to empower public voices by establishing the leading European hub of knowledge on whistleblowing law and policy and to contribute to a credible and impartial education and legal profession on whistleblowing in Europe.
Speaking about the EWI team meeting at MU, the Executive Director of EWI, Dr. Vigjilenca Abazi, stated:
“We would like to extend our deepest gratitude for the invaluable support of the MU Department of Law and Criminology for the EWI team meeting. We would also like to extend a special thank you to Vanessa and Carol. The seamless execution of the event is a credit to their efforts and professionalism. Maynooth is a beautiful town, and it was a great pleasure to visit the university premises.
The meeting was not only a testament to the collaborative spirit we cherish but also a cornerstone for future initiatives. The support of Maynooth University is instrumental in our efforts to move EWI forward, and it is clear to us that the Law Faculty stands on the cusp of becoming a leading academic authority in whistleblower law, not just within Ireland but across Europe. This potential for excellence resonates with the collective vision we share for advancing this critical field of law.”
