Professor Tobias Lock (Jean Monnet Chair in EU Law and Fundamental Rights) and Dr. David Mangan have contributed to the latest edition of The EU Charter of Fundamental Rights: A Commentary (Hart/Beck, 2021). This book is a leading commentary on the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. Professor Lock’s chapter is entitled “EU Accession to the ECHR”. Dr. Mangan’s chapter considers Article 7 of the Charter, specifically private life, home, and communications.

Tobias’ research and teaching interests are in European law and human rights law. He is mainly interested in the interaction between different legal orders. Lately, he has focused much of his attention on the legal questions raised by Brexit. He has given evidence to numerous parliamentary committees in the UK and written commissioned reports for the Scottish Parliament and the National Assembly for Wales. In November 2021, he was appointed as adviser to the Scottish Parliament Constitution, Europe, External Affairs & Culture Committee.

David researches in employment/labour law as well as private law obligations (such as privacy), with a focus on the impact of information technology in these areas. His work has appeared in publications throughout Europe, the UK, and North America. David is on the editorial board of the European Labour Law Journal, and co-editor of Global Workplace Law & Policy. Amongst other research projects, he is currently engaged in Varieties of Industrial Relations in Aviation Lockdown (VIRAL)(a project funded by the EU’s DG Employment), as well as an EU-wide study of privacy in the workplace.
