Rí Anumudu and Kemka Ogbonda of Maynooth University took the top team spot at the first semi-final of The Irish Times Debate 2021
On Thursday the 8th of April, two BCL students, Chikemka Abuchi-Ogbonda and Rí Anumudu, participated in the first semi-final of the Irish Times Debate competition, securing Maynooth University a spot in the final.

Dr Aisling McMahon awarded Irish Research Council New Foundations Funding for collaborative project with Breakthrough Cancer Research
Dr Aisling McMahon has been awarded funding from the Irish Research Council (New Foundations) scheme for her project entitled ‘Patients’ Access to Advanced Cancer Therapies: Ethics and Equity of Access ’. This project is a collaborative research partnership with Breakthrough Cancer Research.

Maynooth University FLAC held their inaugural Moot Court Competition: The Johanna Airey Moot
On Saturday 10 April 2021, Maynooth University FLAC held their inaugural moot court competition The Johanna Airey Moot. The question was very much in line with MU FLAC ethos and focused on human rights issues. The question centred around compulsory vaccination and legislated lockdowns, very topical issues which have seen the European Court of Human Rights issue judgement on compulsory vaccination only days before the moot. This engaging question was kindly written by Maynooth University alumni Conor Duff BL.

David Mangan publishes discussion of online work profiles
Dr. David Mangan has published “Does an online professional profile violate an employer’s confidentiality?” in the European Labour Law Journal. The commentary criticises the European Court of Human Rights’ decision in Herbai v Hungary for its exclusive focus on freedom of expression.

LLM students at the Department of Law were featured in the first MU Sanctuary Newsletter. Maynooth University was designated as University of Sanctuary in 2020 in recognition of its efforts to welcome and include people seeking asylum, refugees and other migrants.
