Dr Oisin Suttle appeared before the Oireachtas Joint Committee on European Union Affairs on 6 April, to provide expert evidence in relation to the EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). The Committee is considering the implications for Ireland of the Investment Court System established under CETA, in the context of wider legislative scrutiny of Ireland's pending ratification of that agreement. Dr Suttle outlined a number of concerns raised by the agreement, including its potential impact on Ireland's freedom to regulate, and the weak economic case for international investment protection.
