Tom Campbell facilitates FirstWeds discussion with Migrant Voices from Across Europe
Last night’s Comhlámh #FirstWeds event was a discussion with migrant-led organisations from four countries in Europe – France, Italy, Slovenia and Ireland - to hear about what different migrant communities are experiencing during the current crisis, and what state and community responses have been in each context.

New Foundations funding awarded to Dr. Eilish Dillon
We are delighted to announce that Dr. Eilish Dillon, from Maynooth University Department of International Development, has been awarded New Foundations Funding from the Irish Research Council to explore how International Development is communicated to the public. The research, which was designed in collaboration with Dóchas, the Irish Association of Non-Governmental Development Organisations, will look at the appropriateness of the images used and the messages being communicated by International development NGOs.

Dr Tom Campbell co-author's new open access article for the journal Climate and Development.
Dr Tom Campbell and Dr Greta Semplici, from the European University Institute co-author a new open access article for the journal Climate and Development. Entitled 'The revival of the drylands: Re-learning resilience to climate change from pastoral livelihoods in East Africa' the paper reviews different waves of rural politics and development in the East African drylands, with a particular focus on Kenya's arid and semi-arid lands, in the context of climate change.

The Dept. is pleased to introduce The Change Makers series, a series of conversations with change makers from around the world. This Change Maker series sets out to connect theory and practice through integration of engaged research and education with the communities with whom we engage, exploring some stories of successes and challenges through conversations with the change makers we have had the pleasure of collaborating with globally.

Exciting new courses in our MA in International Development
We have some new additions to our MA programme which will enhance the current modules and experiential learning offered. From September 2020, participants on the MA in International Development will be offered an opportunity to avail of a work placement as part of their programme of study at Maynooth University. We also have two new modules focused on community and policy responses to climate change which aim to further address and support some of the gaps and challenges posed by the climate crisis.
