Jamboree 23 – Study Abroad and Student Placement Event Highlights

Jamboree 2023
Thursday, October 19, 2023 - 14:45

On Thursday the 12th October 2023, the School of Business held its annual Work Placement and Study Abroad Jamboree for second year students. The Work Placement and Study Abroad programs uniquely offer students the potential to gain a competitive edge in their chosen careers whilst having a fantastic experience along the way as part of their degrees.

The event was a huge success, gathering together a packed theatre of students interested in learning about the various opportunities for Business School students on the Work Placement and Study Abroad programs, as well as engaging with Maynooth University staff about various important information about the process. Students on the day were welcomed by our Head of Business School, Prof. Joseph Coughlan, followed by talks from the Placement Office’s, Martina Bourgoin, as well as the International office’s, Angela McKenna and Alena Jurikova.

A highlight of the event was a select panel of some of last year’s exemplary students from both programs, who talked about both the process and experience of undertaking these programs. Ion Deli and Sarah Forrester shared their experience of placement with Takeda, whilst Lucy Thomas offered insights from her time at Grant Thornton. We also heard from Erika Garkule about her experience studying at the University of Vienna and Emmett Dunne who studied at the University of Valencia.

The event concluded with refreshments and time for engagement between the program teams along with past and prospective students of the programs. This was accompanied by poster presentations highlighting student experiences of their respective programs.

We would like to thank all who attended on the day, and in particular; our speakers, our student panel members, Niall Foster and Fiona Lyons from the Business School, and all those involved in making the event a great success!
