Professor Doherty Speaks at the Institute of Employment Rights in London

Monday, February 15, 2016 - 11:00

On 9 February 2016, Professor Michael Doherty spoke at the Institute of Employment Rights in London, at a conference entitled 'EU Developments: Has Social Europe Disintegrated?’.

As the UK moves closer to the referendum on whether to remain in the EU, the Institute brought together an experienced group of speakers to consider how, if at all, the EU protects workers’ rights and promotes prosperity and jobs. The conference posed the question: Is social Europe growing or withering?

Professor Doherty spoke about free movement and workers' rights. His talk emphasised that equal treatment in terms of employment rights has to be the lever which guides the economic policy of the EU.

The IER EU Developments conference will also be held in Liverpool on 9 March 2016.
Professor Michael Doherty is Head of Maynooth University Department of Law where he lectures in modules on Employment Law and Work and Employment in Europe on the LLB programme.
