Professor Doherty Publishes in Spanish in the Journal "Labor Relations and Employment Law"

Friday, January 20, 2017 - 10:00

Professor Doherty has published a new piece, in Spanish, entitled “Trabajo Decente y Creación de Empleo: una Visión Angloirlandesa”. The article looks at policies of employment creation in Ireland and the UK in the context of the “job creation” pillar of the International Labour Organisation’s (ILO) “decent work” agenda. The piece is published online in the journal  Relaciones Laborales y Derecho del Empleo (which is an open access journal, published by ADAPT University Press in collaboration with el Instituto de Investigaciones Jurídicas de la UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México).

The journal is a special edition, which arose from a symposium at the University of Málaga’s Department of Labour Law and Social Security on 3 – 5 May 2016. The symposium was organised around the four pillars of the ILO’s Decent Work Agenda and was attended by scholars from Brasil, Portugal, Bulgaria, Malta, and Spain.

Prof Doherty has published widely on issues relating to austerity and decent work in Europe, including in the Italian journal Rivista Giuridica del Lavoro. That article, ‘Austerità e diritti del lavoro in Europa: una filastrocca irlandese?’ or ‘Austerity and Labour Rights in Europe:  An Irish Lullaby?’ (which was translated into Italian by the journals’ editors, given Professor Doherty's linguistic inadequacies), can be read in full online.

Professor Doherty is Head of Maynooth University Department of Law where he lectures in modules on Employment Law  on the LLB and BCL programmes.
