Professor Michael Doherty was invited to address the Academic Network on European Social Charter and Social Rights conference in Paris on 13-14 October 2016. The conference – Economic Crisis & Social Rights: A Weakened Standard of Protection? – considered the impact of the crisis and austerity measures in Europe, and examined the protection of social rights by International judicial, and quasi-judicial, bodies.

Professor Doherty has written and commented extensively on austerity and social rights. His most recent piece, ‘New Morning? Irish Labour Law Post – Austerity’, has just been published. The piece quotes Bob Dylan's Visions of Johanna and was published on the day Dylan was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Professor Doherty is Head of Maynooth University Department of Law and lectures courses on Employment Law and Introduction to Law to undergraduate students.
