Following an invite from Áras an Uachtaráin, a celebratory edition of Portráidí na Scríbhneoirí Gaeilge (Portraits of Irish-language writers) was presented to His Excellency, Michael D. Higgins, President of Ireland, on Tuesday 6th September 2016.
As part of the visit to the Áras, the project team from the Department of Modern Irish in Maynooth University (Editor: Dr Liam Mac Amhlaigh; design and technical consultant: Ronan Doherty) together with representatives from the publishing company COMHAR Teo. and the funding body, Foras na Gaeilge, attended a reception with the President.
Noting this special copy of the book, a handcrafted box was designed by Gearóid Ó Conchubhair (with additional items from Ronan Doherty, Studio 13, and Anglo Print) which features an inscription that mentions the occasion of the presentation.
