Dr. Donal Coffey gave an invited talk at the Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies as part of the International Symposium on Law in Early Modern European Colonies. Dr. Coffey spoke on the topic of Legacies and Continuities of Early Modern Colonial Law looking at comparisons between different empires, which will be part of a forthcoming Oxford University Handbook.
 
The symposium featured talks from experts based around the globe, including Kyoto University, the University of Oxford, École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, Universidade de São Paulo, and many others. It examined the legal history of early modern colonial empires, including the British, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Dutch Empires across a number of different dimensions. These included, amongst others, considerations of the Administration of Justice, Regulation of Movement, Slavery, Gender and Sexuality. Dr. Coffey spoke on the topic of Legacies and Continuities of Early Modern Colonial Law.
