Bringing Ireland to the UK, Italy, and Hungary

Assistant Professor at the School of Law and Criminology, Dr David Mangan, spoke at a number of venues over the last several months. In the UK, he spoke about the “Digitalisation of work” at the University of Nottingham’s Commercial Law Centre. In Modena (Italy), he participated in the Political Economy Seminars of the Marco Biagi Department of Economics where he presented “The Platform Discount” which is research conducted with Dr. Karol Muszyński and Professor Valeria Pulignano (KU Leuven Sociology) from the ERC-funded project ResPecTMe (led by Professor Valeria Pulignano). In Urbino (Italy), he gave a seminar on the EU’s proposal to strengthen social dialogue at the University of Urbino Carlo Bo. In Pescara (Italy), he presented, at the University of Pescara-Chieti, on the proposed Platform Work Directive. Finally, David was an invited keynote speaker at Pázmány Péter Catholic University (Budapest, Hungary) for the conference Decent Work in the Digital Age where he spoke about the porous protection of privacy and personal data in EU employment law.  
 
David researches in the areas of employment/labour law and private law obligations (tort and contract), with a focus on the impact of information technology in these areas. His work has been published in Europe, the UK, the US, and Canada. Amongst other research projects, he is currently engaged in Varieties of Industrial Relations in Aviation Lockdown (VIRAL) (a project funded by the EU’s DG Employment), as well as the ERC-funded ResPecTMe project led by Professor Valeria Pulignano (KU Leuven). David is also a member of the editorial board of the European Labour Law Journal and a European Developments Editor. He is co-editor of the Global Workplace Law & Policy blog. David also teaches as part of Osgoode Hall’s Professional Development Program in Toronto as well as the dual degree programs at the Faculty of Law, Université Catholique Lyon (the latter of which Maynooth has a joint degree program). David has been a Global Professor at KU Leuven’s Faculty of Law & Criminology.
