English Language Teaching Assistant Form
This form must be submitted before you leave Ireland to take up your new English Language Teaching Assistant position abroad. Students who intend their English Language Teaching Assistantship to form part of their final qualification and who wish to graduate with a BA International degree must register for their year abroad via the Student Web. Students must seek approval from their teaching department to register for this year abroad and upload their approval.
Please note: As with students who go on Erasmus, teaching assistantship students are liable for University fees when they register, and are required to meet academic requirements for satisfactory progress.
Students are permitted to repeat a period of study ONCE. Policy permission is required if a student is repeating the same period of study and qualification twice or more. This permission is called an Extension of the 2 Year Rule. A request for permission is made through the RE1.1 Registry Permission Form; Permission to repeat a period of study more than once, which can be found HERE.
REPEAT REGISTRATION: IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS
As a repeat student, please note:
-
You only have to repeat Incomplete modules i.e. with result code NP.
-
If a module is passed with compensation, you may repeat this if you wish but it is not essential.
-
The only exception to this is where the module is a "Required" module indicated with a pencil symbol on CourseFinder, in this instance you have to repeat a module passed by compensation to progress in that subject.
-
If you are carrying a deficit from a previous year of study, ensure that you register to remediate this deficit. You cannot graduate until you have taken the full number of credits required by your degree.
-
Your final award mark is calculated by combining your individual module marks in all your modules taken after first year in which you have earned credit (i.e. passed modules and those passed by compensation) excluding ungraded modules and duplicate results for modules which were repeated.
-
You cannot earn credit for the same module twice, be careful not to register to a passed module unless you are repeating for betterment. In which case please carefully read the important considerations below:
Important considerations when repeating for better:
-
You should only register to retake a module if you are confident that you will put in sufficient study to achieve a higher result, and you are fully aware of the risk you are taking outlined below.
-
Final year students can repeat up to 15 credits of passed modules without permission.
-
Non final year students require permission to repeat a passed module – unless a progression threshold mark has not been attained.
-
Final year students seeking to repeat more than 15 credits of passed modules require permission. A request for permission is made through the RE1.2 form; Permission to repeat passed modules FINAL Year student only, which can be found HERE.
Calculating your results:
-
If you choose to repeat a module previously passed (40% or over) to try to improve your result, you must relinquish the mark first obtained and accept either 40% on the original module or the mark obtained on repeating.
-
If you choose (or you are required) to take a new module instead of repeating a module which has already been passed and credits earned (i.e. Pass or Pass by Compensation result), the original module mark and the new module mark will be included in the calculation of your qualification.
-
The regulations applicable to all undergraduate and postgraduate programmes with regards to ‘repetition’ are as defined by Maynooth University Marks and Standards (2016).
PLEASE NOTE:
Repeating students will be able to complete their registration through the STUDENT WEB.
