Faculty of Social Science Poster Winner:

Congratulations to BSc with Education students, AISHLING REILLY and AILBHE GARRY whose poster was selected as the Faculty of Social Science’s best poster at the Undergraduate Research Symposium by the Faculty Dean’s nominee judge, Professor Linda Connolly. She awarded top marks across the board for the aesthetics, content, accuracy, organisation and clarity, as well as the oral explanation of the poster.

A massive congratulations to you both and your mentors who have supported you on this project.

For six weeks from the beginning of June, Aisling and Ailbhe worked under the guidance of Dr Ann O'Shea (Maths & Stats) and Dr Majella Dempsey (Education) on a project focusing on the idea of reasoning. The aim of the project was to extend Johan Lithner’s 2008 framework for mathematical reasoning to science, and to then use our framework to develop tasks requiring different types of scientific reasoning. They also used it to analyse and classify Junior Certificate examination tasks according to their required types of reasoning.
