Dr Laura Watson is the co-editor (along with Helen Julia Minors) of the new book Paul Dukas: Legacies of a French Musician (Abingdon: Routledge, 2019). This essay collection offers a panoramic perspective on Dukas's legacies to twentieth-century French musical culture and practice. As teacher and mentor to composers such as Olivier Messiaen and Elsa Barraine, he strongly influenced a later generation, while as critic he pioneered a new mode of intellectual discourse in the music press. This book should be of interest to anyone working on early twentieth-century French music, music criticism, and composition education in the Paris Conservatoire.
