Last week's conference at UCC on Ireland's Four Decades of Membership of the European Union, hosted by the Centre for the Study of Wider Europe in partnership with the Department of Government at UCC, attracted considerable media attention with slots on Morning Ireland on RTE Radio One and others on Newstalk.
John O' Brennan and Mary C. Murphy published an opinion piece in the Irish Examiner to tie in with the conference. It argued that Government must do more to 'communicate Europe' to Irish citizens.
Professor John Coakley of UCD/Queen's University wrote another piece on the conference themes for The Irish Times exploring the impact of EU membership on Irish identity.
A number of Sociology faculty members participated in the event as paper givers and chairs.
