Thirteen Maynooth University students studying sociology and politics participated in a five-day Erasmus programme at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany, from 20-24 June, 2022.
The programme involved a mix of lectures, fieldtrips, and volunteer social events. The academic component focused on the economic, political and spatial aspects of inequality, with a special focus on developing a comparative and international perspective. Students from the University of Duisburg-Essen and Paris Lodron Universität Salzburg (Austria) participated in the programme alongside the MU students.
One fieldtrip involved a visit to the Ruhr Museum in Duisburg’s neighbouring city of Essen, where students learned about the history of Germany’s industrial heartland.
