Developing Integration Policy in the Public Sector: A Human Rights Approach

Monday, November 27, 2017 - 07:00

A report on Developing Integration Policy in the Public Sector: A Human Rights Approach by Dr Clíodhna Murphy, Leanne Caulfield and Professor Mary Gilmartin Maynooth University Social Sciences Institute  has been launched today.
The research was funded by the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission through the Human Rights and Equality Grant Scheme 2016-2017, and conducted at Maynooth University by Dr Clíodhna Murphy, Leanne Caulfield, and Professor Mary Gilmartin.
Irish migrant integration policy has evolved in a largely piecemeal manner to date, but has been given fresh life by the publication of the Migrant Integration Strategy in 2017. In this context, they identified a need for a complete audit and review of the policies and strategies devised by public bodies in this sphere. This research aims to introduce an explicit human rights and equality dimension to the analysis and development of integration policy in Ireland. It does this, in three stages, by: 1. Outlining a best practice human rights-based model of integration; 2. Auditing the extent to which public bodies in Ireland have developed integration policies or strategies; and 3. Assessing the content of these policies against the human rights-based model.
