Variation in the issue of vacant houses within the Tokyo Metropolitan Area

Japan faces various challenges in a society with a decreasing population, the number of vacant houses increasing and its ratio to total number of dwellings reaching 13.5% in 2013. Many local governments have taken measures against this issue and some private companies have launched new businesses dealing with vacant houses.
However, little is known about how the issue of vacant houses is different between regions. This study examines the regional variation in the conditions of vacancies and countermeasures against the issue of housing vacancy in Tokyo Metropolitan Area.
