Bernie Grummell and Laura Burke attended the Unlocking Freedom through Adult Education Conference in Paris recently. This European seminar ‘CHOOSING YOUR LIFE: Best practices in de-institutionalisation (DI) in Europe and France’ organised by Générations Mutualistes and Centre de la Gabrielle-MFPASS.
This seminar is organized in the framework of a Erasmus + research project of strategic partnership for adult education, named "Unlocking Freedom Through Adult Education". The Department of Adult and Community Education, Maynooth University are one of the research partners. This seminar profiled and explored the research objectives of supporting the process of deinstitutionalisation of people with disabilities and the period of transition (understood as the move from institutional living towards independent living) by developing new pedagogies, methods of learning and innovative training tailored to the needs of adults with intellectual disabilities.
