The Right Honorable William Gregory, Under-Secretary at the Civil Department of the Dublin Government, wrote a letter to Sir Edward Baker Littlehales (1764-1825), Under-Secretary at the Military Department on 15 May 1818: "Give my best Regards to Lady Elizabeth, tell her the Poplin she gave me for the Duchess of Richmond was seized by the Custom Officer at Holyhead tho' it was packed in the middle of my Portmanteau. I was properly quizzed by the other Passengers, as being the only detected Smuggler on Board. The Officer did his Duty in seizing the contraband article, but what think you of the Rogue returning the Poplin to me on the payment of 5 s[hillings]?'.
