Roger Sweetman (Maynooth University) & Professor Kieran Conboy (NUI Galway) recently had a paper published in the Cutter Business Technology Journal special edition focused on Change Management in the Digital Era.

Their paper, entitled ‘Managing Change in Dynamic Environments: Unlocking the Power of Complex Adaptive Systems’, examines the interdisciplinary theory of complex adaptive systems (CAS) and how this theory can be useful in digital transformation. They define nine properties of CAS theory, such as a constant state of flux. For each property, they describe the challenges and opportunities for digital transformation. Finally, they present CAS-based practices that enable change management.

This work was based on Roger’s PhD research and was funded by Lero, The Irish Software Research Centre.

The objective, experience-based opinion and insight found in Cutter Business Technology Journal gives organisations the skills and vision needed to address the spectrum of challenges ongoing business model changes and new technologies bring.

Roger Sweetman is a lecturer in the School of Business, lecturing in Information Systems. His principal teaching interests are around project and portfolio management, the role of technology in business, and social media. Roger is also the Programme Director for the MSc in IT-Enabled Innovation
