Prof. Fiona M. Palmer is on the Organizing Committee and speaking at the Oxford Conducting Institute’s International Conducting Studies Conference at St Anne’s College, University of Oxford (21–23 June 2018). This year the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra is celebrating ‘125 years and counting’. Fiona’s paper, in a session focusing on conducting in the nineteenth century, evaluates issues of autonomy, control and individuality in Dan Godfrey Jr’s work with the Bournemouth Municipal Orchestra before 1914.
