Congratulations to Centre members and Maynooth University History Department graduate students Sandor Magyarosi and Samantha Simpson, who presented their research at the international conference ‘Journeys’, held last week at Galway University and organised by the Irish Association of Russian, Central, and East European Studies http://www.iarcees.org

Both Samantha and Sandor presented on the ‘Military Journeys in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries’ session, with Sandor speaking about Hungarian soldiers from Transylvania deployed to Galicia during World War II, using material from his PhD project on this topic, and Samantha speaking about the role of martyrdom and death in the Kosovo Liberation Army, the subject of her forthcoming MA dissertation (and future PhD).

Sandor is working towards his PhD in the History Department, having completed MA’s at the Central European University and at the Centre for Military and Strategic Studies at Maynooth. Samantha also holds an MA from the Central European University, and is currently enrolled on the MA in Military and Strategic Studies at Maynooth University, with the intention of beginning a PhD in the department.
