Premiere of Ryan Molloy's Violin Concerto

Friday, October 7, 2016 - 17:30

Dr Ryan Molloy, one of our lecturers in composition, has written a new concerto for violin and orchestra which is to be premiered by Darragh Morgan and the Ulster Orchestra on November 1st in Belfast. The concert in the Ulster Hall at 7 p.m. is hosted by the BBC and will be recorded for broadcast on BBC Radio 3's contemporary music flagship programme 'Hear & Now'. Tickets are available here.

Reflecting Dr Molloy's ongoing preoccupation with traditional Irish music and its use in the contemporary idiom, the concerto draws on the ancient categories of traditional Irish music - goltraí, suantraí and geantraí - as a mirror for the traditional three-movement form of many concertos.

Do join him in Belfast on 1st November for this special performance!
