"The proverbial elephant in the room: “raceless” antiracism, development communications and African diaspora invisibility"
Dr Eilish Dillon and Dr Edward Ademoulu, King's College London have published a new article on racism in NGDO development communications in the UK and Ireland. The article entitled, "The proverbial elephant in the room: “raceless” antiracism, development communications and African diaspora invisibility", draws on research in these contexts. Specifically, Eilish's work around the Dóchas code of conduct on images and messages, and Edward's on the impact of development communications on diaspora communities in the UK. Among its recommendations, it calls for NGOs to put critical race analysis at the heart of ethical communications, and to move beyond superficial or 'colour-blind' acknowledgement of racism in development communications, to tackling it through systematic structural and cultural shifts and stronger governance measures. It's open access so available to all.
