Funding: IRC New Foundations

The 2022 New Foundations call is currently set to open on the 10th of May 2022. The Indicative form is now available and the associated documents will be available on the New Foundations webpage.

There will be ​four new strands: 4b, 11, 12 and 14, in partnership with the Global Citizenship Education Unit of the Department of Foreign Affairs (Irish Aid) and the Department of Education, the Department of Rural and Community Development, Community Foundation for Ireland and Tusla Child and Family Agency.

The New Foundations 2022 scheme supports eligible researchers who intend to pursue research, networking and/or dissemination activities within and across the diversity of disciplines. Eligible applicants must, on the call deadline of 21 of June 2022, hold a contract of sufficient duration with an eligible HEI or a recognised RPO to carry out the proposed research from the project start date December 2022 until the project end date.

Please note that postgraduate scholars are not eligible to apply to the strands that will run in New Foundations 2022.

New Foundations 2022 Strands

  • Strand 1a: Enhancing Civic Society within a national context (max €12,000)
  • Strand 4: ‘A Better World’ New Foundations Awards - Networking & Collaboration Grant, in collaboration with the Department of Foreign Affairs (Irish Aid) (max €10,000)
  • Strand 4b: Education for Global Citizenship and Sustainable Development New Foundations Awards in partnership with the Department of Foreign Affairs (Irish Aid) and the Department of Education (max €10,000)
  • Strand 8: Research, networking and collaboration on themes related to the Government’s Shared Island initiative, in partnership with the Dept. of the Taoiseach (max €20,000)
  • Strand 10: Police Community Relations Collaborative Project Grant in partnership with the Policing Authority (max €10,000) (max €10,000)
  • Strand 11: ‘Volunteering Strategy’ New Foundations Award with the Department of Rural and Community Development (max €25,000)
  • Strand 12: New Foundations Award in partnership with the Sunflower Charitable Foundation through the Community Foundation for Ireland (max €20,000)
  • Strand 14: Utilising Evidence for Child Protection and Welfare Policy Needs New Foundations Award in partnership with Tusla Child and Family Agency (max approx. €20,000)
