Surveillance in the Smart City
 
Dr Maria Helen Murphy recently spoke at the 10th international conference on Computers, Privacy and Data Protection (CPDP) in Brussels.
 
Dr Murphy spoke on the "Surveillance and Privacy in Smart Cities" panel that also featured Dr Gemma Galdon-ClavellDr Michael Nagenborg, and Dr David Murakami Wood. Professor William Webster chaired the discussion that considered the privacy challenges of smart cities from legal, philosophical, and practical perspectives. 
 
Dr Murphy drew on recent case law from the European Court of Human Rights and considered whether Article 8 ECHR has the capacity to respond to the challenge.
