Dr Gordon Campbell at the Fondation Hardt

Thursday, August 28, 2014 - 00:00

The 61st annual meeting of the Entretiens sur l’Antiquité classique, at the Fondation Hardt at Vandouevres, Geneva was held on 25th - 29th August, 2014, on the theme of "Cosmologies et cosmogonies dans la littérature antique". Among the speakers was Dr. Gordon Campbell of the Maynooth University Department of Ancient Classics, speaking on 'Oracular Cosmology in Lucretius'.

The Fondation Hardt was set up in 1949 by the Baron Kurd von Hardt who devoted his fortune to a foundation which, he hoped, would reconcile Europeans through the study of their common heritage: classical culture. The Entretiens this year was organised by Michael Erler of the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg and Therese Fuhrer of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München.  The Entretiens takes place over a full week with papers given by eight speakers, followed by discussions.  The proceedings are published in book form the following year, with both the papers and the discussions included.
