On Saturday 25 November, Dr Fergus Ryan, Head of the School of Law and Criminology presented at a conference on Contemporary Parent-Child Relationships and the Law, held at the University of Galway. This conference brought together leading scholars in Child Law from Ireland, England and Wales, France, Scotland and Spain to discuss themes addressing child-parent relationships in various jurisdictions.
Dr Ryan's paper was drawn from research carried out with Dr Brian Tobin of the University of Galway for the Department of Justice. The paper explored the legal position of unmarried fathers in Ireland, tracing improvements in the law, and identifying remaining challenges, with comparative reference to the law in 30 other jurisdictions."
