ERC offers attractive, long-term funding to support excellent investigators and their research teams from all disciplines to pursue ground-breaking, high-gain/ high-risk research.
Particular emphasis on the frontiers of science, scholarship and engineering. In particular, it encourages proposals of an interdisciplinary nature which cross the boundaries between different fields of research, pioneering proposals addressing new and emerging fields of research or proposals introducing unconventional, innovative approaches and scientific inventions.
There are 3 schemes depending on the stage of your career.
||Funding & Duration
||2 - 7 years post-PhD
||Up to €2M for 5 years
||7 - 12 years post-PhD
||Up to €2.75M for 5 years
||Track record of significant research achievement in last 10 years
||Up to €3.5M for 5 years
Based on the number of years post your PhD you can apply for a Starter, a Consolidator or an Advanced Grant.
The eligibility criteria for the 2017 Work Programme are below.
||Principal Investigator shall have been awarded their first PhD no less than 2 and no more than 7 years prior to January 1st, 2017.
||Principal Investigator shall have been awarded their first PhD no less than 7 and no more than 12 years prior to January 1st, 2017.
||No time limit but PI should have significant 10 year track record in their field.
