Great Success for Maynooth Psychology Students at Student Congress
Twenty-three undergraduates made the trip up to the Ulster University, Coleraine last Friday (April 8th) to attend the 38th Annual Congress of Psychology Students in Ireland. Students enjoyed seminars stemming from topics such as; "Everything you know about psychology is wrong" to "The Murdering Mind of Serial Killers". They were also given the incredible opportunity to give oral and poster presentations on their research topics. On Saturday night students attended the Awards Ceremony at the Magheraboy House Hotel, where the Maynooth University contingent managed to collect two prizes. Jodie O'Hara (3rd year BA) took home a High Commendation in the Behaviourism & Biopsychology symposium for her presentation titled "Performance differences in eyewitness and ear-witness memory tasks in the general population and An Garda Síochána". Niamh Doody (3rd year BSc) came runner up in the Poster Presentations event with her investigation titled "Validating an objective test of personality". Undoubtedly, an incredible weekend was had by all, and it would not have been possible without the co-operation of the Psychology Society, and the generosity of the department and the Students Union. Furthermore, the students wish to express their gratitude to all of the departmental staff, in particular Seán Boyle for all of his help in preparing the students with their presentations, and Dr Andrew Coogan, and Dr Seán Commins for co-ordinating these sessions. Finally, a special thanks must also be made to the congress organizing committee at UUC for facilitating a fantastic congress.
