The Centre for Irish Language is delighted to note that 10,000 people have taken TEG exams since the Irish language exam system was first introduced in 2006. More than 2,000 people took online exams in 2020-2021 making it the busiest exam period ever for TEG despite the challenges posed by the pandemic.

Among those who took the TEG exams were applicants who sat the B1 and B2 exams to satisfy entrance requirements for primary teaching – both the Bachelor of Education through the medium of Irish and the Professional Master in Education – and secondary teaching courses, as well as transition year students from secondary schools throughout Ireland.

This year’s candidates weren’t only based in Ireland, however. Many candidates who live abroad took online exams at various levels, including people from South Africa, Australia, US, Canada, Bermuda, and the United Arab Emirates.

On top of all of that, ALTE (Association of Language Testers in Europe) awarded the TEG exams with their Q-Mark for the second time in recognition of the consistent standards of quality and excellence in the exams. Lárionad na Gaeilge are immensely proud of everything that has been achieved by TEG staff in the last 15 years and we are looking forward to running exams again in centres across the country in 2022. The 2021-22 TEG exam schedule can be found on the TEG website.
