Postdoctoral Funding

If you are a PhD student considering an academic / research-focused career, the time to start planning one's postdoctoral career and thinking about how to fund it is while you are still a student. On this page we will post links to postdoctoral funding sources and other resources as they come to our attention, so check back regularly.

Royal Irish Academy Postdoctoral Mobility Grants 2014. Grants are available for short visits to any country to support primary research in any subject area. The duration of visits is generally between one week and six weeks in length, the key objectives being to initiate one-to-one collaborations, explore opportunities to build lasting networks and gain access to ideas, research facilities, and complementary equipment.

Marie Curie International Outgoing Fellowships. This is an EU programme designed to enable researchers from EU member countries (and a few 'Associated Countries') to do research abroad. The idea is that you go out and and gain new skills and expertise and then bring that back to be used in Europe. Research of any kind is supported. Applying for EU funding is cumbersome and complex and takes planning, but it can be well worth it.
