Postgraduate Studies in Anthropology at Maynooth University

Director of Graduate Studies: Dr. Jamie Saris

The Department of Anthropology offers a wide variety of options for postgraduate study. The programme you choose depends on your own particular motivations and goals for pursuing postgraduate study. Anthropology, as a field-based discipline, requires time, and throughout the world the most common standard for a master's degree in anthropology is a two-year programme. We offer the MA CREOLE and the M.Litt. programmes for students who want to fully experience anthropological fieldwork and achieve that standard.

However, we also realize that many students who sincerely wish to pursue anthropology have limited resources; therefore we offer briefer introductions to postgraduate study in the discipline: our Postgraduate Certificates (a particularly good place to start for students with no background in anthropology or who are not quite ready to undertake a full master's programme) and our One-Year MA programmes. We also offer the opportunity to study for the PhD degree, which is generally open to students who already have a master's in Anthropology, or can be pursued following our master's degree programs. Candidates with backgrounds in cognate disciplines will be considered.
