Universal Design Grand Challenge (UDGC) Student Awards 2016
Calling all students in the final two years of study, post grads and recently graduates to enter their student project to win trophies, cash prizes, mentoring supports and  commercialion funding.  Enter any project that focuses on designing or developing a solution that works for a wide range of people.

New award categories and a new, simpler entry process
This years UDGC will feature:

  • Industry standard software for the registration, entry, judging and notification process.  Now entering is easier than ever before.
  • New award categories.  Instead of one we will have 3 Judges Awards for the "Built Environment", "Products and Services" and "Information and Communication Technology".  The winner of each category will receive a cash prize and the coveted UDCG perpetual trophy for that category.  
  • Don't worry -  the People's Choice Award and Universal Design for Commercialisation Award, supported by Enterprise Ireland will remain.

Did you know - the sky's the limit!

More about the prizes
1.        UDGC People’s Choice Award Trophy (travelling perpetual trophy) €1,000.00 in prize money (€500 for the school plus €500 for the student(s)).  The winner of the People's Choice Award is voted on during the Awards Night. 
2.        UDGC "Judges’ Choice Award: Technology" Trophy (travelling perpetual trophy) €1,000.00 in prize money (€500 for the school plus €500 for the student(s)).   The winner of the Judge's Choice Award: Technology category will be decided by an expert panel of judges during the Awards Night. 
3.        UDGC "Judges’ Choice Award: Product and Services" Trophy  (travelling perpetual trophy) €1,000.00 in prize money (€500 for the school plus €500 for the student(s)).  Highly Commended entries will also be announced at the UDGC event.
4.        UDGC "Judges’ Choice Award: Built environment" Trophy (travelling perpetual trophy) €1,000.00 in prize money (€500 for the school plus €500 for the student(s)). 
5.        The Enterprise Ireland “Universal Design Commercialisation Award” will provide one or more of the shortlisted entrants with a Commercial Case Feasibility Grant.

The Universal Design Grand Challenge aims to celebrate great student work and to encourage more students to consider Universal Design in their projects. The entry process for the students can take less than an hour. Universal Design is being promoted at International, European and National levels as a way to enhance innovation and create a more inclusive society. Universal Design prioritises all peoples’ needs in design. The Centre for Excellence in Universal Design is operating the UDGC as a way to promote Universal Design in education in Ireland. Students skilled in Universal Design will have an advantage in their future careers.
