The annual PhD Research Symposium organized by the PhD Committee takes place

Tuesday, May 9, 2023 - 09:30

The annual PhD Research Symposium organized by the PhD Committee, led by Prof. Delia Ferri and Dr. Avril Brandon, in collaboration with the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia and Queens University Belfast, took place on May 3rd. Building on the experience gained in the previous years, this symposium offered an important opportunity to PhD students to present their research and gather feedback, but also to nurture international collaborations and foster interdisciplinarity. This year the event was entitled 'Research that Shapes a Sustainable Future.' Sustainability, in its multifaceted and broad meaning, was the key theme of each presentation. PhD students addressed different facets of environmental sustainability, social inclusion and protection of human rights. The event featured three PhD researchers from the School of Law and Criminology: Chloë Cass presented her work on comparing the Anglo-Saxon victim with the personal injury plaintiff in Ireland, while Harry Chikasamba presented his work on OPD participation and social sustainability. Emily Dunne acted as a discussant for the panel 'Building a Sustainable Society.'

We are very grateful to our collaborators Prof Elio Tavilla, Prof Maria Cecilia Fregni, Prof Luigi Foffani and Prof Alberto Tampieri at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, and Dr Clayton O'Neill at Queens University Belfast, and all those who participated for their insightful and thought-provoking presentations.
