Dr Bastian Rake Joins the School of Business

Dr Bastian Rake joins Maynooth University School of Business.
 
Bastian earned his PhD from Friedrich Schiller University of Jena, Germany, focussing on collaboration and innovation in the pharmaceutical sector. He obtained his Graduate Diploma (MSc) in Business Administration from the University of Jena, focussing on innovation, economics, accounting, and marketing. Prior to joining the School of Business, Dr Rake was an Assistant Professor at the University of Passau, Germany. He has experience teaching innovation and strategy and will be teaching Innovation to our final year students in Semester 2 of the current academic year.
 
Bastian’s research focus is broadly within the area of Technology Management and Innovation. His research concentrates on the relationship between collaboration, networks, and innovation in knowledge-intense industries. He uses large-scale datasets, primarily in the bio-pharmaceutical sector, to explore these themes. In his recent research, he has explored the relationship between the characteristics of different types of cooperation partners for knowledge generation and successful innovative activities. His research casts light on the internationalisation of science and R&D activities, with a particular focus on the internationalisation of clinical trials.
 
He has published his work in the leading international journals within the field of innovation, including Research PolicyIndustrial and Corporate Change, the Journal of Evolutionary Economics, and Industry and Innovation, amongst others. Bastian regularly presents his work at conferences such as the Academy of Management (from which he won a Technology and Innovation Management division best review award), DRUID, and the Schumpeter Society.
