Hubert Smekal is the leading author of the research article "Reforming to Please: A Comprehensive Explanation for Non-Exit from the European Court of Human Rights" just published in European Constitutional Law Review. Hubert Smekal and Nino Tsereteli explain why there has been no exit from the European Court of Human Rights despite its widespread criticism. The authors modify Hirschman's exit-voice-loyalty framework to provide us with basic logic and vocabulary. The incremental cautious approach by both member states and the European Court of Human Rights, which pleases a bit everyone, encourages member states to remain.

Hubert is a lecturer at Maynooth University Department of Law.
