Dr Fergus Ryan addresses judges on EU Law in the District Court

Dr Fergus Ryan of the Department of Law recently addressed a seminar of judges of the District Court on the topic of European Union Law and its application in the District Court. The seminar, held at the Law Society of Ireland, brought together District Court judges to discuss various aspects of EU Law.  Fergus, in particular, addressed the supremacy of EU law, the various types of EU legislation, the concepts of direct applicability and direct effect (both vertical and horizontal), and the ability to make preliminary references to the Court of Justice of the European Union.  This is the second time Fergus has addressed the District Court judges at the invitation of Adjunct Professor at Maynooth University, Her Honour Judge Rosemary Horgan, President of the District Court.

Dr Fergus Ryan teaches Contract, Family Law and Gender & Sexuality Law on the LLB, BCL and graduate courses at Maynooth University Department of Law.
