Uses and usages of oral history

Speaker: Dr Nigel de Lee.
Dr de Lee has taught war studies at Sandhurst, Camberley, history at the US Naval Academy, Annapolis and Operations and Tactics at the Krigsskolen in Oslo as well as working for twenty years as an interviewer for the Imperial War Museum Sound Archive. More recently he has taught in the Politics Department at the University of Hull. 
 
Synopsis:.
In his presentation Dr de Lee will explore questions such as What is the value of oral history as a source? Can it be reliable, comprehensive? What are the defects of oral history? How can it be used? What topics benefit particularly from oral history? What techniques should be used? Finding and approaching informants? Where and when to interview them, and how to prepare? How to handle informants?
