SHAPES Project Update: Positive Reviews, Workshops, Final Open Call

Monday, March 27, 2023 - 15:15

The SHAPES project is entering into its final year and has just successfully gone through the second Technical Review with extremely positive reviews from the European Commission. A plenary meeting took place in September 2022 whereby the entire consortium could gather in person to meet and discuss the project post Covid.

On Wednesday, November 2nd, 2022, the 6th SHAPES Dialogue Workshop “Approaching the diverse SHAPES digital solutions: Empowering older individuals as custodians of their own health and care.” took place virtually. You can watch a recording of this Workshop, here.

The third and final Open Call closed on Friday, 17th March. As there was so much interest, an event for prospective applicants was held online on the March 1st, 2023 and attracted over 80 attendees. During this webinar, prospective applicants had an opportunity to meet the SHAPES management team, find out more about Open Call expectations, the application and evaluation process, and to ask any questions relating to their application.

Open Call 3 will offer individual grants of between €50,000– and €100,000 for scale-up of existing products or services, or development of new solutions. The competition was open to micro, small or medium-sized enterprises, based in Europe – including the UK – proposing substantive innovations which can be trialled and evaluated across participating living labs and pilot sites, including the SHAPES technological platform and the SHAPES Marketplace.

What is SHAPES?
SHAPES (Smart and Health Ageing through People Engaging in Supportive Systems) is an Innovation Action funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme involving a total of 14 European countries. It aims at creating an integrated IT platform that will bring together a wide range of digital solutions focused on improving the health, wellbeing, and independence of people as they get older.

The project is a collaboration between 36 organisations, led by the ALL (Assisting Living & Learning) Institute, Maynooth University, Ireland. The project will last 48 months (from November 2019 to October 2023) and will involve a range of activities that go from the creation of the digital platform itself, to the development and improvement of 15 technological and social solutions aimed at supporting older people.
