We would like to congratulate our colleague Professor Séan Commins who has been awarded an Irish Research Council Research Ally Award.  Research Ally prizes are awarded to mark the crucial role played by higher education personnel in supporting the academic research community across all career levels.   The Irish Research Council characterises Research Allies as “an encouraging and instructive presence in academia, offering the practical and professional guidance, personal contact and wider networks that are key to academic fulfilment and success. They help to maintain a positive research environment that is free from discrimination, bullying and harassment”.

Professor Commins was nominated by his research group, who in their submission highlighted Professor Commins ability to inspire, motivate and encourage his students to believe in themselves. They noted that his door is always open for academic and non-academic support, and highlighted the active role he plays in supervision which encourages meaningful research.   Warmest congratulations Séan!
