Series No: 1 - The Origin and Development of Welfare States
Welfare states take primary responsibility for citizen wellbeing by ensuring a minimum standard of living is within the reach of all. Some welfare states are more generous and inclusive, and others more restrictive and exclusionary. This first book in the Windows on Welfare series explores the concept of a welfare state: where welfare states originated; how they evolved; different types of welfare states; and various critiques of welfare states, asking the question what is the future for the welfare state? The book covers a vital knowledge base for those seeking to understand contemporary policy or promoting policy positions

Series No: 2 - Explaining the Origins and Development of Irish Housing Policy
Housing remains one of the key concerns in Irish society today: lack of housing, insufficient social housing, unaffordable housing, inadequate rental supply, lack of mobility in housing and inequitable access to housing. Despite repeated measures and calls for action, the effects of an ongoing crisis are all too evident. The roots of this housing crisis are not to be found in the term of the current government, or even in the preceding decade. To understand how we reached this state of crisis in our housing sector, we must look further back, well into the twentieth century, at the policies and initiatives that shaped the Irish housing sector we have today. This second book in the Windows on Welfare series explores the origins and development of Irish housing policy, explaining the language and detailing the states approach to housing its citizens. The book profiles the state of Irish housing policy and administration today, outlining some of the key discourses that rage in media, political and academic circles alike, such as the right to housing, Traveller accommodation, direct provision, child and youth homelessness, womens homelessness and provision of accommodation for victims of domestic violence.

Series No: 3 - Life Course Policies in Ireland Childhood, Youth and Old Age
Covering child policy, youth policy and policies for older people, this third book in the Windows on Welfare series is expanded to map the origin and development of Irish policies across the life course, outlining the contemporary policy infrastructure, legislation and strategies which guide the way the government responds to the needs of citizens across the life course. Spotlighting contemporary discourses at each life stage, the book addresses such issues as child poverty and child trafficking; youth homelessness and youth service provision; nursing home care, and abuse of older people.
